Pop Art and Conceptualism Artists. Gilbert & George began creating art together in 1967 when they met at St Martin’s School of Art in London. They are two artists who work together as the collaborative art duo Gilbert & George; best known for their distinctive, brightly colored photo collages, mostly comprised of large-scale photographs. Their art expressed culture and ultra-violence. The artists have enjoyed decades of critical and widespread acclaim, including a retrospective at Tate Modern in London and representation of the United Kingdom at the 2005 Venice Biennale.
