This is a striking large jar by Anderson Peynetsa. The jar has a high shoulder with a sloping neck. The neck of the jar has four classic Zuni rainbirds with swirling heads and thin lines. The body of the jar has large rosettes and sections with heartline deer. The jar is made with red Zuni clay and painted with black and red clay. The designs on this piece are all derived from historic Zuni pottery. Each deer is very tightly painted and they are stylized with thin legs. The heartline deer is a classic image in Zuni pottery, with the heart representing the strength and spirit of the animal. It is an elegant and striking vessel. The jar on the bottom, “A. Peynetsa”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. This is a figurative jar by Anderson Peynetsa. The jar has a four lizards in relief. Their heads are raised above the neck of the jar, looking downward. The tail swirls around the piece and the white dots on the back are white clay and are raised. The body of the jar is a deep orange-red-colored clay, while the eyes are slipped red. The jar is classic in both shape and design. It is signed on the bottom, “A. Peynetsa”.
